What College Costs
Planning for College

There will be tuition, fees and books wherever you go to college. Tuition is what it costs to enroll in classes and participate in campus activities. You pay fees for specific activities or events, like lab sciences or computer access.

Unless you live at home, you’ll also pay room and board for a place to sleep and for meals. Or you may rent a room or an apartment and cook for yourself.

Don’t forget transportation costs. Getting around on campus and back and forth between school and home is usually an added cost.

And you’ll need spending money.

No wonder the cost of going to college can add up quickly.

But there’s good news — according to The College Board, nearly one-third of all students enroll in public four-year colleges or universities that charge between just $3,000 and $6,000 annually in tuition and fees.

So four years of classes and a degree could cost less than a new car. And you get a much better return on your investment.

Find out more about ways to cover the cost of college.
