2018-2019 Money Matters Ambassador

2017-2018 Money Matters Ambassador
Angel C

As a lifelong member of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Angel has actively participated in Club programming, and taken advantage of opportunities to be deeply involved in the Club and in her community. Specific to her qualifying as the 2017-18 Money Matters Ambassador, Angel has demonstrated a strong understanding and application of financial concepts, and a desire to share this knowledge with her peers.

Angel participated in the Money Matters program in the Club for four consecutive years, continually reinforcing and building upon her personal financial literacy. During this time, Angel actively participated in the various components of the Money Matters program. She now serves as a youth advisor for program development, and also mentors Club members in middle school. With more than 1,000 hours of volunteer service, Angel has become adept at serving her community. She is passionate about helping her peers avoid generational poverty that plagues the community where she grew up. The money management skills that Angel has learned through the Money Matters program have helped her lead her Keystone Club to the National Keystone Conference for the last three years.

A three-year, three-sport (cheerleading, swimming and tennis) student-athlete for her school, Angel was recognized as a recipient of the Athletes for a Better World from Atlanta Public Schools, and served as the senior editor of her school's yearbook. With knowledge gained from Money Matters, Angel learned to create additional income streams by developing marketable skills to ensure she is "living her wage." Angel also learned how to prioritize her needs over her wants and how to create a work/life balance. With plans to pursue Broadcast Journalism in the fall of 2017, Angel will devote her career to telling human interest stories, which she believes deepen community unity.

Angel says, "The Money Matters program has given me the confidence to dream of a secure financial future. Through the lessons, my first job at the Boys & Girls Club, and participating in the Reality Store, I have learned how to manage my money and make life decisions that will assist me in creating financial security for myself and my family. I know the burden of consumer and student debt because of participating in the Money Matters program. I am on my way to realizing my dream of pursuing a college education debt-free with the help of my mom and the Club staff. I know that I have a responsibility to live as a positive influence and to help as many youth within my reach as possible to do the same."
